Three Maltese wrestlers have won one gold and two silver medals at the Nottingham (Great Britain) Open.

Promising cadet Gary Giordimaina clinched the gold medal in the 50kg category after seeing off the challenge of wrestlers from Scotland, England and India.

Veteran Abraham Vassallo, 96kg, had the better of Indian, English and Polish wrestlers on his way to the final but had to settle for silver after losing to his Polish opponent in the decisive bout.

In the 66kg, Adam Vella beat Pakistani and Welsh wrestlers but went down to a Bulgarian in the final to claim silver.

The Maltese wrestlers were under the guidance of national coach Jesmond Giordimaina.
