Judd Trump would love to win the World Championship and tell his father he can stop trucking.
Dad Steve is a long-distance lorry driver and Trump has benefited from years of his support and backing from mother Georgina.
The family made many sacrifices, including giving up holidays, to allow 21-year-old Trump to make the best of the talent which became apparent at an early age and in the past month he has rewarded his parents’ faith, winning the China Open and now reaching the World Championship semi-finals.
He is currently engaged in a last-four tussle with Ding Junhui.
Trump’s family are cheering him on in Sheffield, and he said: “Dad drives all sorts of trucks. It would be nice if I can maybe win the tournament and let him retire.”
Sudden fame has caught Trump by surprise.
“People have been staring at me while I’m out eating,” he said.
“It’s a little bit different, a little bit awkward – my table manners aren’t good. But it’s also quite enjoyable.”
Trump has joked he is now an “international playboy”, however he is wary of the pitfalls.
He said: “I’m not sure the attention I’m starting to get over here now from girls is because of what I look like, though. It might be the bank balance going up.”
He is assured of £52,000 for reaching the semi-finals, but the top prize is £250,000.
Both semi-finals are due to finish today.
Semi-finals (latest results): Ding vs Trump 12-12; Williams leads Higgins 9-7.
