On July 17, we were sadly informed that Ernest Causon had left this world to join the Kingdom of Heaven, which he really deserves.

We were office colleagues at the National Assistance in lower Merchants Street, Valletta, during the 1960s and early 1970s but, though we dispersed in different departments, Ernest was the lifeline to keep one and all in touch irrespective of grade. He was a person who to know you is to befriend you and keep interest in you for life. He kept records of the details of each member of the staff and on the date he reminded all of any special occasion of any member of the group.

But, most of all, he kept all of us informed of the circumstances and situations of each one of us and our families. He was always forward to give and give and never expected anything in return.

Now we have lost this lead and it is difficult to replace.

He carried a constant smile on his face, even when he was worried and indignant, as it was the case when his dear first wife, Mary, faced health problems. We could see tears in his eyes and moments of deep thought. It was a very difficult time for him since he loved so much but his positive attitude always kept him above water.

He had a particular quality that he never lamented on his problems. He never compared his sufferings but, rather, belittled them, though he used to be so very much concerned with others’.

Dear Lord, Ernest deserves eternal rest for his love for his neighbour.

We convey our condolences to his wife, Osanna, who for the last years took great care of him, to his sons, Mark and Simon, and all his relatives.
