Following this year’s edition of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest, escflashmalta.com recently held its annual awards event, which was staged in collaboration with Spiteri Lucas Entertainment and Bristow Potteries.

The event, which was broadcast during the Sas-Sitta show on Net TV, is based on the participating entries of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest, which are voted for by the public, a panel of international music critics and another panel made up of local and foreign music journalists.

Voting for the songs in all three categories, namely the Public Award, Critics Award and Media Award, actually started before the final night of the festival, so as not to be influenced by the final result.

Commenting about the outcome of the voting, escflashmalta.com editor Marc Calleja Bayliss said that this year there were around 2,000 more votes cast in the public poll than last year. The Public Award went to the song Never Walk Away, sung by Chris Grech.

“For the Critics Award, we brought on board a number of industry professionals whom we’ve worked with in recent years.”

The panel included Martin Isherwood, former Eurovision participant Roberto Meloni, Slovak producer Stano Simor (Universal) and leading songwriters Lina Eriksson, Sharon Vaughn and Knut-Oyvind Hagen.

The Critics Award went to Needing You by Kevin Borg.

Last but not least, the Media Award was voted for by 10 members of the foreign music press and 10 local media personalities. This award was won by The Remedy, a song sung by Klinsmann.
