To wear a seatbelt is compulsory and failure to do so brings a warden or a policeman to the scene, often with great pomp and ceremony. This is all to the good.
In the meantime, however, we allow a proliferation of the fatal hobby of playing around with explosives. We have seen, year after year, diehards and dilettantes blown to bits. We have seen families wiped out and so much blood and tears couched in the excuse of festive grandeur.
Surely, this is not remotely what the saints of Malta want and all we do is sit and stare – and mourn! It is amazing that the central government and the local councils do nothing to control access to these centres. Not merely this but we also read that these deathtraps are “open on Sundays”.
One step further remains – “Children are welcome” !
