The MV Ta’ Pinu ferry will not be in service today and tomorrow because of maintenance works.
The MV Malita and MV Gaudos will be used for the scheduled ferry service.
The MV Malita will make use of both hanging car-decks with a clear deck height of 2.5 metres to increase its carrying capacity.
The Gozo ferry company might also switch to a shuttle service during other times of the day if necessary.
Man jailed over drugs
An irregular immigrant from Mali was jailed for a year yesterday after he was found in Paceville with four grams of cannabis.
Salya Kounate, 24, from the Marsa Open Centre was caught on Sunday carrying cannabis and yesterday admitted to aggravated possession of the drug and committing the crime within 100 metres of a place frequented by youths.
Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera jailed him for a year after taking into consideration his early admission.
Fall girl not badly hurt
The teenager who fell at Wied Babu on Sunday evening while walking with her boyfriend suffered slight injuries, the police said yesterday.
It had initially been reported that the girl from Marsaxlokk had suffered serious injuries.
The police, however, clarified yesterday that she “was subsequently certified to be suffering from slight injuries following further medical examination”.
She fell from a height of eight metres at about 7.30pm and an Armed Forces of Malta helicopter was deployed to lift her from the valley.
Ecstasy pill sentencing
A man who pleaded guilty to being in possession of 57 ecstasy pills was yesterday jailed for three years and fined €1,000.
He was among 15 people arrested for drug possession or trafficking during a party at Corradino sports pavilion on Sunday, the police said late last night.
Fourteen of those held are men, aged between 18 and 45 years.
The only woman to be arrested was 18 years old.
Other arraignments are expected to be made in the coming days.
