An Easter cake, measuring one metre by 2.2 metres, in the shape of a lamb, prepared by David’s Bakery in Gozo, on the initiative of Arkadia Marketing Ltd, raised €1,620 in aid of the Puttinu Cares Foundation, which helps children who are sick with cancer.

The figolla, which was exhibited at Arkadia in Victoria, attracted crowds of Gozitans and Maltese who were willing to taste it while donating to this noble cause.

David Mercieca from David’s Bakery and Antoine Portelli, general manager of Arkadia Marketing Ltd, cut the figolla in the presence of members from the Puttinu Cares Gozo Committee and a number of volunteers.

The figolla was made using 70 kilos of pastry, 105 kilos of pure ground almonds and five kilos of icing and decorations. It cost the bakery €600 to bake, which Mr Mercieca also donated to the foundation.

It was prepared in 20 hours by Mr Mercieca, helped by his sons Manuel and Mark.

The committee thanked all Maltese and Gozitans for their generosity towards the foundation, which recently built a block of apartments in Sutton, London, to be able to offer free accommodation to children and their parents.
