Crushed by Poland’s elimination from Euro 2012, Polish media yesterday blamed the president of the country’s football federation, Grzegorz Lato, and called for him to resign.

Poland fell out of the group stage of the tournament after losing 1-0 to the Czech Republic Saturday.

Coach Franciszek Smuda resigned immediately after.

“Poland eliminated. Coach Smuda out. It’s now time for Lato to leave so that authentic changes can come about in the Federation,” broadsheet daily Rzeczpos-polita said.

“Aren’t you ashamed to look Poles in the eyes?” the tabloid Super Express asked Lato and Smuda, who stared out from large photos splashed across the front page.

Goian keen to stay with Rangers

Romania defender Dorin Goian hopes to stay at Rangers but will seek talks if the Glasgow side are not part of the Premier League next season.

Goian played 33 games for Rangers last season after moving from Palermo, but says he has had no contact from Ibrox as the club battle for their future.

“I have two years left on my contract and want to come back to Rangers,” Goian, 31, said.

“But if the situation is going to be like this and we are playing in a lower division, all of the players are going to need to have a discussion with the new owner.”

Ramirez could remain at Bologna

Gaston Ramirez could remain at Bologna next season if no suitable offers arrive for the Uruguay international this summer.

The playmaker is a reported target of Manchester City, Inter, Liverpool and Wolfsburg.

However, the Serie A club have yet to receive an official offer for the 21-year-old, who is reportedly valued at €25 million.

“For the time being there is nothing new,” Bologna sporting director Roberto Zanzi said.

“We cannot forget that the player has a contract with us and we have a lot of faith in him.

“Whoever wants him, will have to talk to us first.”

Fiorentina play down Jovetic talk

Fiorentina sporting director Daniele Prade insists the club have not received any bids from Chelsea for striker Stevan Jovetic. There have been claims in Italy that Chelsea are preparing to bid £20 million for the Montenegro international.

“For the time being, Jovetic is our player,” Prade said.

“Chelsea have never made an official proposal and I know their (Chelsea’s) club executives very well as I lived in England for a year.

“We want to build our team around him (Jovetic).”

Jovetic has been linked with a move away from Florence in the past year. The 22-year-old is under contract with the Tuscan outfit until June 2016.

Vertonghen still wants to sign for Tottenham

The agent of Jan Vertonghen insists his client’s move to Tottenham is still on despite the sacking of Harry Redknapp.

Spurs began talks with Ajax over the transfer of Vertonghen weeks ago, but so far there was no agreement on the transfer of the 25-year-old defender.

Vertonghen has made it clear he wants to move to White Hart Lane despite interest from other clubs, most notably Arsenal.

The sacking of Redknapp raised doubts over whether the deal would go ahead, but Vertonghen’s agent Mustapha Nakhli insists the move is close.

“Nothing has changed at all.

“He is coming to Tottenham for the club and not for the manager,” Nakhli said.

Flamini set to leave Milan

Mathieu Flamini, 28, is set to leave Milan this summer after rejecting the Serie A club’s offer to extend his contract which expired this month.

The Frenchman joined Milan four years ago from Arsenal but is ready to walk out after the club were unwilling to offer him the same terms again.

Reports said Flamini is only willing to reduce his current deal to €2.5m annually.

Flamini will leave Milan at the end of this month with his next destination likely to be Malaga, the oil-rich Spanish side who have the funds to meet his financial demands.

£200,000-a-week Drogba offer

Shanghai Shenhua have offered Didier Drogba £200,000-a-week to play for the club, a salary that would make him the best paid player in China, state media said yesterday.

Reports say Drogba, who left English side Chelsea after helping them win the Champions League final against Bayern Munich last month, will join the Chinese Super League club and may announce the move this week.

According to the official Oriental Morning Post, the two sides have already reached agreement “in principle” for a two-and-a-half-year contract.
