Tottenham Hotspur have completed the signing of Newcastle United midfielder Moussa Sissoko on a five-year contract, the Premier League side confirmed on Wednesday night.

The France international had looked set to move to Everton only to opt for Spurs after the London club made a late bid for the 27-year-old.

“Very happy to join Spurs for the next five years,” the midfielder wrote on his official Twitter account.

Earlier, Tottenham signed Marseille forward Georges-Kevin Nkoudou on a five-year deal, with Clinton N’Jie going the other way on a season-long loan.

Mbokani among late Hull recruits

Hull’s threadbare squad received some much-needed late reinforcements with the arrivals of Dynamo Kiev striker Dieumerci Mbokani, AZ Alkmaar midfielder Markus Henriksen and Manchester United’s James Weir.

Just minutes before the transfer window closed, the Tigers signed the former Democratic Republic of Congo international Mbokani on a season-long loan with a view to a permanent deal while the Henriksen deal was not confirmed until gone midnight.

Because of the last-minute nature of that deal the Norway international has joined on loan but will sign a permanent contract in January when the window reopens.

Valencia bring in Garay, Mangala

Valencia made their second defensive signing of transfer deadline day, bringing in Argentina international Ezequiel Garay from Zenit St Petersburg.

The 29-year-old former Real Madrid and Benfica man was the second central defender to join the La Liga club on Wednesday, following the arrival of France international Eliaquim Mangala on a season-long loan from Manchester City earlier in the day.

Garay, capped 32 times by Argentina, has signed a four-year deal with Valencia.

Valencia have moved to replace Shkodran Mustafi, who joined Arsenal on Tuesday.

Fernandez agrees loan move to Milan

Milan have signed Fiorentina playmaker Mati Fernandez on loan from Fiorentina with an option to buy.

The 30-year-old Argentina-born Chile international joined the Viola from Sporting Lisbon in 2012 and has scored seven goals in 122 appearances for the Florence club.

“Mati Fernandez has today officially been registered as an AC Milan player, on loan with option to buy,” a club statement said.

There was another departure from the club as goalkeeper Diego Lopez moved to Espanyol on a season-long loan.

No regrets over Ireland retirement

Robbie Keane insists he will have no regrets over ending his international career after scoring his 68th goal for Ireland in his 146th and final appearance.

The 36-year-old was given a rapturous ovation by the crowd at the Aviva Stadium after playing 57 minutes of Wednesday night’s 4-0 friendly victory over Oman and signing off with a goal which saw him draw him level with German great Gerd Muller.

Asked if he had any regrets over his decision, which he conveyed to manager Martin O’Neill and his team-mates after the Euro 2016 finals, Keane said: “No, it’s the right time. You just know when it’s the right time.

“Will I miss it? Of course I will. It’s a big part of my life and my family for 18 years, so of course I will miss it, but I don’t think I’ll sit back and regret it.”

Robson-Kanu seals West Brom switch

West Brom’s attacking options received a boost with the signing of one of Wales’ Euro 2016 heroes, Hal Robson-Kanu.

The 27-year-old was a free agent after leaving Reading at the end of last season and despite some impressive performances in France this summer he remained without a club up until the final day of the window.

“It was an important decision for me and my family and we took our time but it’s a fantastic club and manager and I’m really happy to be here,” said the striker who scored one of the goals in the Euro 2016 quarter-final defeat of Belgium.

Schweini not giving up on United

Bastian Schweinsteiger says he can envisage a future in New York, but not before 2018.

The Manchester United midfielder played his final game for Germany on Wednesday night, making a tearful farewell in his testimonial – a 2-0 win over Finland.

He insists he has not played the last game of his career at the highest level, though, despite a difficult situation at United which he is intent on resolving positively.

“New York is a great city, but I have a contract with United until 2018 and you know what the atmosphere is like at Old Trafford and it’s my dream to run out there again,” he told ZDF television.

“I hope I get the chance to help the team again.”
