Lucas Torreira could make a move to the Spanish La Liga in January as Sevilla are showing keen interest in the young Sampdoria midfielder.

Gazzamercato.it reported that coach Jorge Sampaoli is eyeing up the Serie A for new signings following the transfers of Salvatore Sirigu and Adil Rami in summer, among others.

Torreira, 20, has left a good impression so far in the Italian top flight following his move from Pescara in 2015. This season he started eight Serie A matches.

The Uruguayan has a contract at Sampdoria running up to 2020.

Motherwell become fan-owned club

Scottish Premier League’s Motherwell became a fan-owned club  after the Well Society and Les Hutchison concluded a takeover agreement, BBC reported yesterday.

Supporters group Well Society assumed a 76% shareholding from Barbados-based Hutchison for £1 following talks that lasted several months.

The Fir Park club has now become the first club in Scotland’s top flight to become fully owned by their fans.

Hearts were bought over by businesswoman Anne Budge in 2014 with a view to an eventual handover to the Foundation of Hearts.

Pochettino laughs off Aguero link

Mauricio Pochettino has laughed off speculation that Tottenham are interested in signing Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero.

Pochettino chuckled when quizzed on whether Spurs were tracking Aguero, then scotched rumours linking the White Hart Lane club with the Argentinian frontman.

Reports in the Spanish press have claimed Tottenham, Arsenal and Chelsea are all weighing up bids for Aguero, who has not been assured of a starting berth in recent weeks.

Asked if Tottenham had any interest in Aguero, manager Pochettino said: “Not true, 100 per cent not true.”

Celtic’s Tierney out for two months

Celtic and Scotland have suffered a major injury blow with the news that defender Kieran Tierney is out for two months with ankle ligament damage.

The Parkhead club confirmed the 19-year-old left-back suffered the injury in training.

Former Celtic youth player Tierney will miss Scotland’s crunch 2018 World Cup qualifier against England at Wembley on November 11 and the League Cup final against the Dons at Hampden Park on November 27.

Tierney will be absent for the rest of Celtic’s Champions Lea-gue Group C fixtures against Borussia M’gladbach, Barcelona and Manchester City.

Wilshere doubts Arsenal future

Midfielder Jack Wilshere is unsure whether his Arsenal career is over.

The 24-year-old, who joined the Gunners aged nine, is currently on a season-long loan with Bournemouth as he tries to re-establish himself following a lengthy list of injuries.

Wilshere is under contract in north London until 2018 but is not certain whether he has a future there.

“I haven’t really thought about my future beyond getting a season under my belt and just trying to improve as a player,” Wilshere told reporters.

“I genuinely don’t know if I am going to end up at Arsenal or somewhere else.

“If you’d asked me two months ago if I was going to finish my career at Arsenal then I would have said ‘yeah, of course’ but here I am. And I’m enjoying it.”

Butland not ready for the action

Jack Butland is still a number of weeks away from returning to action for Stoke City and will miss England’s matches against Scotland and Spain next month.

The 23-year-old goalkeeper has not played a match since suffering an ankle injury playing for England against Germany in March.

Stoke boss Mark Hughes says it’s a case of taking things slowly.

The Welshman said: “Jack was on the pitch on Tuesday but he’s still a number of weeks away yet from joining in with the squad.

“We’ve still got to be patient and Jack Butland has to be patient. He can’t force things too readily either.”

Rangers’ financial losses cut in half

Rangers’ financial results have revealed their annual losses have halved after the club secured a return to Scotland’s top flight.

The Gers published their accounts for the year ending June 30 on Friday, showing they have increased turnover by almost £6m to £22.2m, while their losses have been trimmed from £7.7m in 2015 to £3.3m.

The club returned to the Premiership this season after a four-year absence but their quest to be genuine challengers to Celtic seems a little way off yet after their Glasgow rivals defeated them in both the Premier League and League Cup.
