A year from releasing the album Dreams, Maltese rock band The Myth is back with a brand new single, Sadness in Your Eyes, revealing new elements in the band’s sound that veer away from the Brit-pop leanings that informed its earlier work.

“The launch of the album marked an important step in The Myth’s history,”guitarist and singer Dion Farrell said in a comment.

With a good number of singles to their name, it was perhaps high time these were collected on one album for public consumption. This, however, wasn’t the only reason behind the album’s release.

“We were looking for a new sound, something more different and interesting,” Farrell continues.

“As a band we never really stuck to one style, mainly because we love to experiment and try out new things.”

The album then can be regarded not only as a singles collection, but also as the end of one chapter and the beginning of another in The Myth’s musical journey.

The new single started taking shape soon after Dreams was released. Rougher round the edges than any of their previous releases, Sadness in Your Eyes’ style was one that seemed to click instantly with the band.

Before long they had decided – it was to be the way forward for The Myth. By this time, the band had brought in a keyboard player, which gave the band a significant boost during the recording process.

“We also switched to a different recording studio and producer to give the band a fresh start. There’s also a drastic change in our vocal style; the band is pretty much unrecognisable from what it sounded like previously.”

Apart from the single release, The Myth has also released an accompanying music video on Youtube.

“The intention wasn’t so much to shoot a ‘proper’ video; in fact we produced it ourselves from footage we had filmed in our rehearsal studio – basically, all we needed was some footage to complement the music on the Youtube clip.” Further to this, the band engaged renowned photographer Keith Darmanin (of http://kitzklikz.com ), who did the ‘Tea Room’ photo shoot to accompany the new song.

The Myth is Dion Farrell (guitars and vocals), Patrick Mifsud (bass), EtienneFarrell (guitars), Stephen Zammit (keyboards) and Jonathan Callus (drums).
