The wholesale value of fresh fruit and vegetables declined by 3.1 per cent in the final quarter of last year compared with the corresponding period in 2012.

National Statistics Office figures showed 8.3 million kilograms was sold at official markets, yielding €4 million.

The supply of fresh vegetables went up by 1.9 per cent to 7.9 million kilograms over the comparative quarter.

Increases were registered in supply of carrots (18.1 per cent), cabbages (8.2 per cent) and dry onions (5.3 per cent).
