A different side of our sister island can be seen in a walking tour being organised by Flimkien għal Ambjent Aħjar on Saturday.

Gozo off the Beaten Track will be showing areas that shed light on the island’s history.

The tour begins in Xagħra with a visit to Xerri’s Grotto, one of only two caves found on the Maltese islands where stalagmites and stalactites can be seen. While in Xagħra, participants will be guests of a traditional farm, home to one of the last remaining active field windmills on the island. The tour will include the statue of our Lady of Mercy next to the Plague Hospital and walk through the oldest part of the village to the Santa Verna prehistoric remains.

After lunch at a traditional bakery, the tour will continue via the trackless train through the Xwejni Saltpans, Wied il-Għasri, the Ta’ Sdieri area to the Wied il-Mielaħ coastal window. The tour will end in Għarb, the second oldest parish outside Victoria with a visit to the parish museum.
