Twenty-three voluntary organisations and NGOs received grant agreements for small projects and initiatives which they will be carrying out throughout the coming year.

The grants were awarded by Civil Liberties Minister Helena Dalli under the Small Initiatives Scheme, which is managed by the Voluntary Organisations Fund within the Malta Council for the Voluntary Sector.

The scheme was established to assist and support voluntary organisations through education, management support and financial grants.

Voluntary organisations enrolled with the Commissioner for Voluntary Organisations may apply for funds between the range of €1,000 and €3,000.

Funds are given for specific projects and initiatives which have to be completed within 12 months of the funding decision.

Over €64,000 has been awarded to 23 organisations for their projects this year.

This complements other funding initiatives to voluntary organisations such as the Good Causes Fund, the Youth in Action Programme and the Lifelong Learning Programme.
