Students who have yet to receive their resit results can still apply at Giovanni Curmi Higher Secondary School, headmistress Mary Attard confirmed yesterday. Their qualifications will be updated when their O Level exam results are published, she said.
Yesterday, Times of Malta reported that a number of prospective students were concerned that the delay could mean missing the registration date and, therefore, the beginning of the academic year. Registration for studies at the Higher Secondary in Naxxar closes on Thursday. However, secondary sitting results would not be published before the next day, a Matsec spokesman had confirmed.
Ms Attard explained that, as had been the norm in previous years when results were delayed, the school would still accept applications received on the given registration dates.
“Our school is renowned for opening doors for students and is unique in providing a second opportunity for students in their studies. Our motto is To Give Another Chance,” Ms Attard told Times of Malta.
“We place the interests of the students first and provide them with a high quality educational experience. This is further evidenced by the excellent academic results obtained by our students.
“Of course we will not turn down students just because their resit results have not been published in time.”
Following the publication of the results, students will be allowed to make any necessary and desired course changes.
Asked why the school employee reached by this newspaper did not put the students’ mind at rest about late results, Ms Attard said there must have been a misunderstanding.
“The skeleton staff members operating in summer were all informed about the procedure we adopt,” she said. “Also, during a meeting I had with prospective students on July 17, I had informed the students present that, in the event that their results are published later than the second registration date, the school would still accept applications, based on the qualifications obtained.
“Our aim has always been to cater for ‘all’ of the needs of our students.”
Registration dates are between Tuesday and Thursday.
