The Central Bank has uploaded a range of statistical information on historical monetary and banking interest, some dating more than half a century, on its portal.
The data includes a number of series which were published in past releases of the Central Bank’s Quarterly Review, and is featured complete with general methodological notes.
Academics, researchers and students of economics, banking and finance should find the information particularly useful. Stored as spreadsheets, the information is accessible through a menu-driven, easy-to-use and searchable database.
No registration is required and access is free of charge.
Recently added statistics accessible at www.centralbankmalta.org include financial statements of the Central Bank; monetary aggregates and their counterparts; deposits held with all banking institutions; aggregated balance sheet of deposit money banks; aggregated balance sheet of banking institutions; deposit money banks’ loans outstanding by economic activity; and international and other banking institutions’ loans outstanding by economic activity.
The CBM’s data archive also provides access to a wide range of data sets in general macroeconomic statistics. There are also links to international macroeconomic data series published by the European Central Bank, Eurostat, the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.
One of the Central Bank’s core functions is to collect, compile and disseminate monetary, financial and selected statistics.
