First of all a word of thanks for readers’ prayers and concrete action in time of need. What is the situation in Libya now? Certainly there is a general relief and Libyans are once again proud of being part of the international community.

However we cannot deny the effects of war; trauma on children, young men and women, damage to buildings and loss of property, physical and spiritual wounds, abuses and lack of order, theft, loss of jobs, and increase in prices, together with many questions and uncertainty for both local people and immigrants alike.

Formation to regain trust and a sense of order will take some years; forming young people to be responsible for the freedom they have achieved at a high price and building a culture of respect and reconciliation; building bridges between young and old, between different tribes and regions, between locals and foreigners and above all between those pro and anti change. For this reason we helped 10 young people to participate in an international meeting to experience solidarity, respect and reconciliation.

What is the situation of immigrants after the war in Libya? Those with contracts are back on their jobs. For those coming from the sub Sahara passing through the desert, life is still very uncertain. Will they be sent back? Can they carry on with their humble jobs? Can they continue dreaming of crossing to Europe? These families are still around asking for basic help and for the education of their children; they are in need of medical assistance and welcome. Those detained in camps or prisons long for our visits.
