An innovative piano and audio-reactive visual performance titled Amalgama is being held today in Lascaris Wharf, Valletta.
The performance will see pianist Gabi Sultana and visual artist Mark Dingli exploring minimalistic works by John Cage, Philip Glass, Steve Reich, Benjamin Van Esser and Chris Cerrone.
Sultana’s piano sound is fed through Dingli’s visuals, which are specifically made for this programme and bring a visual aspect into what is usually a purely listening environment.
The result is an immersive experience for music, art and experimental-sound enthusiasts.
This project includes Sultana’s piano transcription of a piece by NSI –Non Standard Institute (a partnership between Tobias Freund and Max Loderbauer) and a piano and modular improvisation with electronic musician TR-S1.
