Inter remained unbeaten in this season’s Serie A when they came from behind to overcome the challenge of Fiorentina 2-1 at the San Siro last night.

Walter Mazzarri’s team are now second in the standings, just two points adrift of early pace-setters Roma and level with Napoli and Juventus who are on the 13-point mark.

The match turned out to be a lively affair with both teams adopting an attacking approach right from the outset.

Fiorentina came close to an opener early in the first half when Giuseppe Rossi forced a one-handed save from Inter goalkeeper Samir Handanovic.

The Viola threatened again midway through the half when Rossi released Joaquin but the Spanish winger was foiled by the onrushing Handanovic.

Fiorentina’s endeavours were rewarded with an opener on the hour when in a swift break Joaquin was brought down in the area by Juan Jesus and from the resultant penalty Rossi drilled the ball past Handanovic.

But Inter soon responded and drew level on 72 minutes when Esteban Cambiasso rifled the ball past goalkeeper Neto.

The home side continued to push more men forward and they managed to grab the all-important goal seven minutes from time.

In another swift raid, Juan Jesus picked Jonathan inside the area and the Brazilian wingback blasted the ball into the net.

Fiorentina almost grabbed an equaliser in stoppage time but Massimo Ambrosini was denied by the excellent Handanovic.
