Michaela Debono has returned from the UK where she attended a two-week residential performance course organised by the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD), London.

Attending this course were the top 74 students from 20 countries aged between 13 and 19.

Debono, aged 13, was selected by the tutors and director and presented with an international award by the artistic director of the RAD, Lynn Wallis, entitling her to attend any RAD International Summer School of her choice, anywhere in the world.

The performance course is designed to give students an understanding of the slow creative process that goes into the development of performances, as well as encouraging them to blossom into better dance performers, both artistically and technically.

The distinguished faculty consisted of Liane McRae and Rachel Hunt (classical ballet), Jessica Williams (contemporary) and Rebecca Allen (jazz).

Debono’s group performed Garland Dance (Sleeping Beauty – classical ballet); Big in Japan (contemporary) and U Can’t Touch This (MC Hammer – jazz) at RAD Genee Studio.

Debono started her dance training at Dance Academy, under the tutorship of Ingrid Desira Buttigieg, aged three.

Over the years she has obtained a distinction in all of her examinations.

She is currently studying classical ballet, modern jazz, Spanish and contemporary at Dance Academy.
