The National Centre for Family Research of the President’s Foundation for the Well-being of Society, in collaboration with the International Commission on Couple and Family Relations, will be organising an international conference on couple relationships in the 21st century between February 7 and 9, 2018.

Leading scholars from all parts of the globe will be giving talks on how couple relationships are unfolding in different contexts.

They will discuss cultural trends in their respective regions and the various ways in which power and closeness serve to shape relationships across cultures.

The realities of intercultural and LGBT couples will also be addressed. The impact of children on the couple relationship will be given importance, as will the use of technology.

“This conference will help us reflect on the direction that couple relationships are taking, what couples themselves are telling us and the theoretical frameworks that can best inform our thinking,” the organisers said in a statement.

The conference, to be held at the Presidential Palace, Valletta, will be presented in an interactive style with expert colloquia and participatory and discussion groups.

Workshops will follow at the Valletta campus of the University of Malta.
