There was a 5.3 per cent increase in the number of people holding both full-time and part-time jobs in August 2011 when compared to the same month the previous year, data provided by the Employment and Training Corporation shows.

Increases were mainly recorded in the hotels and restaurants sector

Full-time employment rose by 1.7 per cent and the number of those registered as unemployed fell by 1.9 per cent.

The health and social work sector recorded the highest increases in employment while the construction sector suffered the biggest losses, with 105 fewer jobs.

Almost three out of every four full-time jobs are in the private sector, with major increa­ses in the real estate, renting and business activities sector.

Part-time employment grew even more rapidly, with a four per cent increase in August 2011 when compared to August 2010. Increases were mainly recorded in the hotels and restaurants sector.
