Reference is being made to the report ‘Judiciary reform Bill is “unacceptable”’ (March 4).

Unfortunately, the Times of Malta chose not to refer to the statement the government issued on the matter. Here is what we said:

“The Ministry for Justice, Culture and Local Government expresses satisfaction at the very positive outcome that was registered during a meeting between Minister Owen Bonnici and the Chamber of Advocates on the Bill proposed by the government on the method of appointment, accountability and conditions of employment of the judiciary. This Bill deals with very delicate issues and the government declared from the start that it was open to ideas and proposals from the various interested parties, including the Chamber of Advocates, to improve the Bill and attract a wider consensus.

“Minister Bonnici thanks the Chamber of Advocates for the proactive role taken and for its proposals.”
