Audio tape cassettes have finally been phased out of court with witnesses now being digitally recorded.

In a visit to the law courts last week, Justice Minister Chris Said, accompanied by Parliamentary Assistant Franco Debono, said that besides the upgrades, free wireless internet was also available in every courtroom.

He said it was thanks to the intervention of Dr Debono that the courts had now become digital. Dr Debono said the law should now be amended to reflect this development.

A fourth hall has been equipped with video conferencing facilities, which was used primarily in cases of sex abuse, enabling minors to give evidence without having to face their aggressors.

Dr Said pointed out that a pilot project was under way for civil cases to be filed electronically.
