Why do we have to keep on ‘depending’ on the old Maltese lira (Lm)? A perfect example is the donation amounts asked for in charity TV productions and most fund-raising activities. These donations usually consist of €11.64 or €23.29, so that they can be equivalent to Lm5 and Lm10 respectively.
Likewise, contraventions start at €23.29. It is about time that people get used to what is now our currency, the euro, and let go of the lira.
On another issue, why do stamps still carry the odd cent on them? Postage for Malta is now 26c. It should be 25c or 30c. The most remarkable example is the cost for Zone B (USA/Canada). It is, strangely enough, 51c not 50c!
