Cyclists taking part in the Actavis 2013 LifeCycle Challenge trained in Gozo last Sunday, taking the opportunity to have a change of scenery after some 16 weeks of training in Malta.
The ride in Gozo was staged as a rehearsal for all those involved, with signs being put up by a team (and taken down at the end of the ride), and checkpoints organised outside Ta’ Pinu Sanctuary and at Xagħra square with the all-important food and water.
The cyclists are now doing several hours of training each day as the departure date is just a few weeks away, which means they do several loops around every corner of Malta.
Once on the challenge, the cyclists stop every 40 to 50km for a very brief rest and to get some of the 10,000 calories they need every day if they are to complete the average 200km they will travel every day.
