Motorists can expect traffic congestion to get worse at the Lija roundabout junction as drainage works resume today.
Transport Malta yesterday advised traffic diversions will be in place to ensure safety for workers as the second phase of the storm water project in the area gets under way. The government said works would continue at night to reduce the inconvenience to motorists.
Three-metre-high trenches will be dug to replace damaged drainage pipe work and rainwater grills will be installed.Traffic from Birkirkara bypass towards Mosta will not turn at the roundabout but proceed on the right-hand side straight towards Mosta.
Traffic from Birkirkara and Balzan towards Mosta will stick to the left side of the roundabout. Cars from Birkirkara and Lija will proceed towards the Lija cemetery and turn back towards the bypass. Motorists from Mosta to Birkirkara centre will have to turn back on the bypass at the Vodafone roundabout.
