The Lord Mayor’s Show is one of London’s great spectacles, dating back nearly 800 years. Every year bands, floats and a military parade wind their way to the heart of the City of London to inaugurate the new Lord Mayor.
Historically, it marks the day the Guilds of London celebrated their prosperity and the Lord Mayor paraded in a special gold carriage through the heart of London’s City.
The parade takes the Lord Mayor from Mansion House to pledge allegiance to the crown at the Royal Courts of Justice before turning past St Paul’s Cathedral and the Bank of England, to end at the Guildhall.
The day ends with a fair in Paternoster Square and the Lord Mayor’s Fireworks Display.
Held between Waterloo and Blackfriars Bridges from 5 p.m., the spectacular fireworks display is close to the Houses of Parliament.
Head for the river early on and get yourself a good vantage point from the Embankment, Gabriels Wharf, Blackfriars or Waterloo Bridge.
