The University’s Faculty of Medicine and Surgery is offering a part-time evening Master of Science programme in Clinical Ethics and Law for personnel in the health care professions.
This new programme will focus on the theme of clinical ethics. This is an in-depth study of the ethical and legal questions raised in the context of medicine, and includes genetics, assisted reproduction, advance decisions, mental health, medical research, organ donations and the allocation of scarce resources.
Other topics covered are medical law and skills needed for clinical ethics such as communication skills, conflict resolution, counselling at the beginning and end of life, medical leadership, clinical governance, functions of ethics committees, public health and ethics ward rounds.
The course will be conducted over a period of six semesters on a part-time evening basis and will be mainly taught with a 30-credit dissertation.
