The Malta Film Commission took part in the Intrapriża Malta fair where 150 persons visited the stand and signed up to register with it. Its participation was part of an outreach programme to generate awareness about its role.
Visitors were provided with a unique cinematic experience where a selection of locally-produced short films were shown using a wireless headphone sound system and viewed from the comfort of a deckchair to relax in. These included works directed by David Serge, Armand Attard, James Spiteri, Eleonora Rose Abela, Kenneth Scicluna, Rebecca Cremona, Ray Mizzi, Andrew Galea Debono, Jean Pierre Magro, and Engelbert Grech. In addition, winners of the third edition of the Malta International TV Short Film Festival were also presented.
Visitors also had the opportunity to discover more about Malta’s long history as a backdrop for feature films shot entirely or partially in Malta which goes back at least 86 years.
Jean Pierre Borg, film enthusiast and administrator for the Facebook page Filmed in Malta, who has taken up the task of researching and collating data on all foreign productions filmed here, was present to elaborate and present his findings.
This included revealing the earliest known films shot here such as Sons Of The Sea (1925), Battles Of Coronel and Falkland Islands’(1927) and Bolibar (1928), all three of which were silent movies.
A selection of enlarged film posters were also put on display.
