‘Maltese bells and bell-ringing in the Baroque Age’ is the title of a public lecture to be delivered by Kenneth Cauchi on Thursday at 6.30pm at St Helen’s parish centre hall, Birkirkara (entrance through Sanctuary Street). The lecture will trace the ways in which medieval Maltese campanology evolved into the dramatic levels reached in the High Baroque period. The importation of bells from European cities influenced Maltese campanology and this continued with the recasting of cracked bells over time. The lecture is organised by the University’s International Institute for Baroque Studies and will be introduced by its director Denis De Lucca.
