The Mayo Clinic board of trustees has named Gianrico Farrugia vice president and CEO of its campus in Jacksonville, Florida.
Dr Farrugia is a professor of medicine as well as physiology and biomedical engineering. He has been with Mayo Clinic for over 26 years as a physician in the divisions of gastroenterology and hepatology as well as physiology and biomedical engineering at the clinic’s campus in Rochester, Minnesota.
He has served in numerous leadership roles at Mayo Clinic with multi-site responsibilities in his specialty and at organisational leadership level. He currently serves as director of the Mayo Clinic Centre for Individualised Medicine and is director the clinic’s Enteric Neuroscience Programme.
He attended St Aloysius’ College, Birkirkara, and graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Malta in 1987.
