It’s again that time of the year when representatives of footballers’ associations tour the world to encourage members to take part in the vote for the FIFA FIFPro World XI.

Local players from the Premier League and Division One and Two are joining their peers from around the world by casting their votes.

Officials from the Malta Football Players Association (MFPA) are visiting local clubs to distribute voting forms to players.

“The players look forward to participating in this vote,” the MFPA said.

“Some consult with each other while others prefer to vote alone without discussing or showing preferences.

“Obviously, players do tend to select their favourite stars and also players of their preferred clubs.

“It is widely anticipated that big names such as Messi, Ronaldo, Pirlo, Balotelli, Lahm, Ribery, Buffon, Bale, Rooney, Falcao and Ibrahimovic will feature prominently on this year’s voting documents.”

Last year, Maltese players voted for 10 of 11 players who were eventually included in the FIFPro World XI.
