A team of Maltese wrestlers, under the charge of national coach Jesmond Giordimaina, have just competed in an international tournament in Bradford, England.

The team, consisting of seven wrestlers, had an outstanding performance and returned home with three gold medals and a silver for the sport to continue with its development and progress registered in recent years on our shores.

The young Gary Giordimaina was making his first official showing on the international scene but the occasion did not overwhelm him as he claimed the top honour in the 55kg category.

Abraham Vassallo and Adam Vella also did well in the 84kg and 60kg classes respectively to finish on the highest step of the podium while Aidan Buhagiar was the runner-up in the 96kg.

Meanwhile, coach Giordimaina figured in an invitational 74kg Masters event and the veteran showed he had lost none of his skills as he won the platonic title at stake.

Referee Pawlu Farrugia also made the trip to Bradford along with the Maltese team. He was the official in some of the bouts at the tournament.
