A 36-year-old man from Latvia was given a six-month jail term suspended for a year after he admitted to punching a police officer.

Pasikovs Sergejs was accused of threatening and attacking the police in a St Paul’s Bay apartment early yesterday morning. The police went to the apartment after neighbours reported there was a fight between a couple. Mr Sergejs, who was in the apartment with the couple, attacked the officers.

Police Inspector Gabriel Micallef prosecuted.
