As a visiting professor of the institute, this year’s visit marks the 20th consecutive visit by Dr Boisson to deliver lectures on maritime safety and security. He delivered a three-part lecture during his stay.
Dr Boisson first gave an introductory lecture on maritime safety and security, defining it to be the protection of people, property and the marine environment and then continued with subsequent lectures, delving into depth in the areas covered by maritime safety. These included the regulatory process in maritime safety, ship safety construction and equipment and cargo safety.
In his fifth lecture, he dealt with the human element of safety and operational safety, followed by the control of ship safety. In his final lecture, Dr Boisson covered the role of classification societies in ship safety.
Dr Boisson is a titulary member of the Comité Maritime International and also a maritime arbitrator of the Chambre Arbitrale Maritime of Paris.
He lectures at the Faculty of Law, Lille University and is president of the French Maritime Law Association.
Dr Boisson is a member of the French Superior Council of Merchant Marine.
In 1981, he joined Bureau Veritas, one of the largest classification and certification societies worldwide. Dr Boisson has dutifully worked himself to the position of communication director and legal adviser for its Marine and Offshore division.
Dr Boisson is a member of the institute’s governing board.
His hands-on and working knowledge in the field of maritime safety and security, which he was adequately able to transmit to the students, made them very much appreciative of the lectures.
