Chiswick House School, San Ġwann, was recently awarded the status of International Model School for teaching Maths for Mastery.
The school, which uses the new Singapore Maths approach, was audited last month by the Maths – No Problem team, which was impressed with the way the school has taken this new approach on board, and the children’s engagement which in many aspects exceeded their expectations.
At an event held last week Education Minister Evarist Bartolo visited a number of school classrooms to observe the approach in practice. Chiswick House School and St Martin’s College have recently engaged Richard Townsend as director and leadership consultant, and together with Barbara Firth, from the National Association for More Able Children in Education (NACE), they will be mentoring students and teachers to work towards the Challenge Award, which prepares the school to cater for its most able and talented students and also to raise teaching and learning standards and achievement for all learners.
