Holders Real Madrid have been drawn against Segunda Division B side Ponferradina in the last 32 of the Copa del Rey.

Real were famously knocked out by third-tier sides in successive years at this same stage of the competition in 2009 and 2010, losing to Real Union and Alcorcon, before bouncing back to win the cup last season.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s extra-time goal saw Real beat Barcelona 1-0 in the final to earn their 18th Copa del Rey crown but first since 1993. It was also the first piece of silverware for Real under Jose Mourinho.

Ponferradina, having been relegated from the second division last season, are currently fourth in Spain’s Segunda Division B Group 2 – the same level of competition that Real Madrid’s reserve team play at.

Barca are also facing third-tier opposition in their two-legged last-32 tie in the form of L’Hospitalet, who are in Segunda Division B Group 3.
