Montenegro President Filip Vujanovic started a two-day official visit to Malta yesterday accompanied by his wife.

The day kicked off with an official meeting with President George Abela at The Palace in Valletta.

This was followed by an official ceremony of welcome at St George’s Square and wreath laying at the War Memorial in Floriana.

Later he took part in a tree planting ceremony at San Anton Palace and met Joseph Muscat, Leader of the Opposition.

In his speech during the state dinner at Verdala Place in Rabat, President Abela referred to Montenegro’s process of accession to the European Union, which started in November 2005.

“Montenegro is a very good example of how EU enlargement policy can stimulate reforms needed to achieve European standards in all areas of life,” he said.
