For quite a number of years, the Planning Authority was called a monster or a monstrosity.
This was due to the rigid rules and policies safeguarding our national building character and protecting the environment.
Let us admit that some of those policies went to the extremes. Now that rules and policies have been relaxed it is the same Planning Authority that is producing ‘monsters’ and ‘monstrosities’ of buildings, degrading to a large extent our streetscapes, depriving us of characteristic landmarks, vernacular buildings and a good part of our countryside.
Give us a break, please, while considering where this trend will take us.
