So now, for veteran Labour politician George Vella, Labour leader Joseph Muscat is practically the Prime Minister of Malta!

No achievement really. After all, Dr Muscat told us that Labour now has its best team ever and we are all sure would use all tactics to avoid a fourth consecutive defeat at the polls. That would be too embarrassing for Labour.

I imagine that since he is practically at the very top, it is time for Dr Muscat to spell out his solutions.

How does he propose to create jobs? He would be lucky to step in at the helm of our small country when Malta has just reached an all-time record in employment and can boast of one of the lowest unemployment rates in the entire European Union.

How does Dr Muscat intend to secure sound public finances? He is lucky here too. A few days ago the European Commission stated that “Malta took the right corrective measures to make sure to keep its commitments. We are very confident that the island is on the path to keep its public finances under the three per cent level of GDP in both 2012 and 2013”.

So Dr Muscat would be inheriting a very sound economy if he gains power. But first he will have to eliminate his many catch-words and slogans and offer valid ideas.
