A car in which two Nationalist MPs were travelling was hit by another vehicle in Pieta last night, sending them to hospital suffering from whiplash.

Deputy Speaker Ċensu Galea said he was a passenger in the car being driven by fellow MP Fredrick Azzopardi when another car slammed into them from the back as they were practically stationary.

He said the other car was travelling fast and their Toyota was pushed about 10 metres forward on impact.

Neither of the two, who were returning from Parliament, was seriously hurt but they were last night suffering from whiplash, Dr Galea said.

The other driver, who appeared to be Nordic, emerged to speak to them but then got back into his car – a grey vehicle with German number plates – and drove off, he said. The police were looking for him last night but Mr Galea was quick enough to take a picture of his number plate on his mobile phone.

House Speaker Anglu Farrugia expressed regret over the incident and said he hoped whoever was responsible would be caught.
