A prestigious painting by Maltese artist George Fenech was recently donated to Ta’ Pinu Sanctuary by his widow Doris Fenech.

The 150cm by 191cm contemporary painting, entitled The Marriage at Cana, was painted in 1987 and is one of Fenech’s most renowned and familiar works. It was the artist’s wish that the painting would be exhibited in a place of worship.

The presentation took place at the end of a Pontifical Mass presided by Gozo Bishop Mario Grech, during which he blessed the painting.

It is currently on display in the sanctuary and may eventually be used as the titular painting of the chapel of the retreat house in the process of being built near the basilica.

The donation further enhances the artistic heritage of the sanctuary, which already boasts paintings by Mario Caffaro Rore, Giuseppe Briffa and Emvin Cremona.
