Having read two articles on the topic in the issue of August 2, I am glad I live as far away from Marsaxlokk Bay as is possible without actually leaving the country.

The article ‘Keep fireworks and LNG tanker far apart’ highlights the potential dangers associated with holding fireworks events near the gas tanker, soon to be moored in the bay.

On the back page, the Talking Point ‘The Freeport and the gas tanker’ describes the unease voiced by residents of Birżebbuġa (and Marsaxlokk) aboutthe tanker.

Has anyone considered that the danger posed by fireworks extends beyond organised events? Sitting on my terrace watching the amazing firework displays in Gozo, I can’t help worrying about some miscreant with a couple of rockets and nothing else to do except drive as close to the tanker as possible, take the fireworks out of his vehicle, light the fuses and watch the spectacle as fiery sparks descend over the gas tanker.

God forbid if there is a gas leak, as suggested as a possibility in the fireworks article.

God forbid anyone arranging a gas leak to coincide with the unofficial fireworks display!
