The Marie Therese Vassallo Voice Studio is presenting its Christmas concert at Our Lady of Mount Carmel parish church, Balluta, St Julian’s, tomorrow at 7.15pm.

The concert features the premiere performance of the Cantico Delle Creature Di San Francesco D’Assisi, composed by Frank Vassallo (1924-2000). This is 10-movement work composed to old Italian verses that St Francis himself used to praise the Lord.

The late Mro Vassallo came across these verses on a parchment. His daughter, Marie Therese, transcribed the whole work during August and September this year. She adapted it for soprano and tenor soloists and choir. She opted to divide the choir into two sections – sopranos and tenors against altos and basses.

Taking part in the concert are soprano Claire Caruana, tenor Joseph Aquilina, the choir of the Marie Therese Vassallo Voice Studio and orchestra under the musical direction of Vassallo.
