An in-house performance to mark the end of the first year of a two-year, full-time course at the Malta Youth Ballet Foundation was recently held at the foundation’s studios in Qormi.

During the evening, guests participated in the work in progress of the students, as these performed various styles of dance disciplines, including variations from the classical ballet repertoire, contemporary work by Graham and Cunningham, Spanish and modern jazz dance, and also students’ own choreographies.

During this short but intensive performance, the high level of these young dancers and the standard of training and technique could be appreciated.

The Malta Youth Ballet Foundation is offering the first full-time professional dance course in Malta. The Diploma in Professional Dance, which is of an international standard, is recognised at level 5 of the European Qualifications Framework and the Malta Qualifications Framework by the National Commission for Further and Higher Education Malta.

This course is also open to foreign students. All those who qualify would then be eligible to work in a professional dance company. This qualification is recognised by the University of Malta and most foreign universities.

The aim of the foundation is to make a dancing career a reality for Maltese students, offering an intensive course with many hours of training by highly qualified teachers, yet at a reasonable fee.

The next diploma course in professional dance starts on September 16. The project is supported by the Invex Scheme and the Janatha Stubbs Fund.
