Seismicity across the globe throughout January was relatively mild. Hundreds of earthquakes occurred globally during the month but there was no major earthquake. The Mediterranean region was affected by normal earthquake activity in known seismically active areas such as Greece, Turkey, Italy and Algeria. Closer to home, in the early morning of January 11, a magnitude four earthquake struck about 160km northwest of Malta. If readers felt earthquake-related shaking on this date they are encouraged to report their experience through the online questionnaire found on http://seismic.research.um.edu.mt .
