William Finley, an American actor known for his quirky role in the cult film Phantom of the Paradise has died aged 69.
Mr Finley passed away in New York of complications following surgery, according to the film website Imdb.
Mr Finley made a name for himself when he played the part of Winslow Leach, a struggling songwriter who seeks revenge in disguise after his score is stolen by a wicked producer, in Brian de Palma’s epic 1974 film Phantom of the Paradise.
The New York native appeared in other films directed by Mr de Palma, whom he met as a student, including Sisters, The Fury and The Black Dahlia.
He also played in horror movies including Eaten Alive and Night Terrors directed by Tobe Hooper.
Mr Finley is survived by his wife Susan and son Dashiell.
