On Sunday, the Malta Weightlifting Association (MWA) will host its second ranking competition at the Cottonera Sports Complex.

This event will double up as the final selection competition for the European Small Nations Tournament, to be held here next month, as well as the Malta Open in May.

Monaco, San Marino, Cyprus, Luxembourg, Italy, Switzerland, England, Wales and Scotland have confirmed their participation for the European Small Nations Tour-nament.

The Maltese team will be looking to repeat their performance at last year’s European Small Nations Tournament in Luxembourg.

The team, comprising Noel Coleiro, Matthew Muscat Inglott and Serbian-Maltese lifter Jovan Reljic, returned home with a silver medal after a solid performance.

Eighteen-year-old Rodmar Pulis, who was unable to take part in last year’s competition, will be motivated to give the Malta team a boost this time round.

In their first international com-petition this year, the Med-iterranean Cup in Brindisi, the Maltese lifters gave a very good account of themselves, finishing seventh out of 12 countries.
