The Malta Karate Federation recently organised the National Championships series at Savio College, Dingli.

A record 220 martial artists took part in 44 different categories in both kata (forms) and kumite (sparring).

“Karate is on the rise on our shores and the improvement in technical levels witnessed during the two days of the championships were very encouraging,” Kenneth Abela, president of the Malta Karate Federation, said.

“We are proud of all our young athletes, particularly Nicholas Mercieca, who, despite his disability, practices karate with remarkable passion.

“His determination and dedication is an example to all of us.”
